That's interesting: on page 156 of the court transcript, introducing Howlett, it states:
"MATTHEW A. HOWLETT, named as 'Malcolm' A. Howlett as a defendant in this action, having been duly sworn, testified as follows:

I need information about a M.A Howlett who was at Bethel during the 1920's and 30's ...Who was this man? He is essentially forgotten today, but at one time it appears that he was well known and very prominent in the Watchtower Organization.
Matthew Arnold Howlett was one of Rutherford's lackeys who took a substantial part (along with Rutherford himself) in slandering Olin Moyle after he left Bethel in August 1939, highly critical of Rutherford. Howlett was one of the defendants in the action for defamation that Moyle raised against Rutherford, the other WT directors (and Howlett).
Howlett gave substantial testimony during the trial: in the transcript, his pre-trial examination is from page 156 to page 167. His main testimony during the trial starts on page 1166 and goes through to page 1211.
I don't remember the details now offhand, and don't have time to read it again, but it's fascinating if you can get a hold of the transcript.

In Britain in the 1970s, the cost was approx USD 0.003 (one third of a cent) per magazine for direct printing costs, and approx USD 0.005 (half a cent) per magazine when all Britain Branch overheads were included (i.e. costs of trucking, home and office workers, provision of accommodation and propety maintenance, food, laundry, etc.)
Price Hughes (branch servant before the branch committee arrangement) used to boast that he ran the cheapest branch in the world. It was true - he was really cheap!

Looking at the Petition for Writ of Mandate, I've just noticed the petitioners are listed as Watchtower Bible snd Tract Society of New York and North Congregation of JWs, Red Bluff, California.
Is there any significance in the omission of the Pennsylvania corporation from this petition?

Where, I wonder, is a copy of the confidential elders letter that gave that directive to write such notes in the margin? Any elders out there with such a letter in their file? Or another confidential letter saying that certain previous confidential letters were to be destroyed?
Jourles is correct. The wording of these notes will have been read out by the circuit overseer, from a letter he will have received from WT. Any circuit overseers reading this prepared to post a scan of the letter?
There is a confidential letter to that effect that hit the congregations in UK, and someone here borrowed the letter from the CO somehow(!) and had a notarized copy made at a lawyers office before taking it back. Whoever has a link to that, could it be posted here? I wonder if an internal memo like that (even though for the UK and not the US) might help prove negligence on the part of the WTS.

As an aside, referring to the Court's ruling on Watchtower's Motion To Quash Service of Summons, Jourles wrote:

This got me wondering whether, irrespective of whether or not Watchtower decides to appeal the Court's Denial of Writ, the above ruling will be transmitted to the IRS and result in Watchtower's losing their charity status, as they are clearly engaging in the business of property insurance?
If not, can someone here pass this information on to them?
